Quick International Delivers Shipment of Precious Breast Milk to Orphanage in South Africa for Premature, Sick and Orphaned Infants

October Delivery of 2300 Pounds of Milk is Now Feeding Malnourished and Immune System-Compromised Babies

(PRWEB) NOVEMBER 01, 2016

Breast milk saves lives of sick, premature and orphaned infants
“ I am so pleased that Quick International was able to participate in this life-saving endeavor. Breast milk is a key intervention to promote child health and survival”

The US-based International Breast Milk Project (IBMP), Prolacta Bioscience and Quick International Courier joined forces once again in a humanitarian effort to deliver donor breast milk for premature, sick and orphaned infants in South Africa.

Quick provided the cold chain logistics planning and end-to-end transport of the shipment to the orphanage. Over 15,000 ounces of donor breast milk was picked up in City of Industry, CA, and delivered within three days in late October to iThemba Lethu in Durban, South Africa, a transition home for orphaned and abandoned children.

To maintain the integrity of the milk and its nutritional value, it was crucial to maintain a specific temperature throughout transit. The milk was packed in dry ice, a frozen carbon dioxide, with surface temperature of -109.3 degrees Fahrenheit (-78.5 degrees C) that maintained the required frozen temperature from California to South Africa. The temperature was monitored at all checkpoints throughout transport.

Breast milk provides optimum nutrition for infants, providing nutrients and immune properties. Many babies who are cared for at Ithemba Lethu are malnourished and immune-compromised when they are received into their care. Breast milk provides the nutrients they need to thrive, helping to reduce infection by strengthening their immune system, and is especially beneficial for those babies who are HIV infected.

" I am so pleased that Quick International Courier was able to participate in this life-saving endeavor by providing secure cold chain transportation. Delivery of breast milk is crucial in these areas, because one-third of the people in South African towns are HIV positive, which makes recruiting healthy local milk donors very difficult. In the developing world, breast milk feeding is a key intervention to promote child health and survival,” says Dominique Brown, Chief Executive Officer, The Quick Group of Companies.

About iThemba Lethu

iThemba Lethu is a local Durban non-governmental organization devoted to helping vulnerable babies, children, youth and families regain a meaningful destiny by recognizing the value of their lives and the importance of being in a secure family environment.

The iThemba Lethu Breast milk Bank is the first community-based human milk bank in South Africa. It was opened in 2001 by Professor Anna Coutsoudis, who had a vision to restore a destiny of hope and promise to those babies and children whose futures were at risk of being negatively impacted by HIV/AIDS. The orphaned and abandoned babies in their care at two Transition Homes receive donor breast milk, and also provide breast milk to babies in neonatal ICU’s at private and public hospitals.

About the International Breast Milk Project (IBMP)

IBMP helps new moms in the U.S. join the fight against poverty and disease by providing an avenue to donate breast milk to infants in South Africa and around the world. The donor milk is unquestionably lifesaving for many of the tiny, premature babies who receive it. Because so many babies have been abandoned, orphaned or have moms that are too sick or malnourished to breastfeed, there is a significant gap in the current supply of available local milk. http://www.breastmilkproject.org/

Prolacta Bioscience

Prolacta Bioscience, Inc. is a privately held life sciences company dedicated to Advancing the Science of Human Milk®. The company pioneered the development of human milk-‐based neonatal nutritional products to meet the needs of critically ill, premature infants in the NICU. Prolacta leads the industry in the quality and safety of nutritional products made from donor breast milk and operates the first and only pharmaceutical-‐grade manufacturing facility for the processing of human milk. Sterling Aviation Launches AeroRide Service: Specialized 24/7 AOG Priority Ground Logistics With Unparalleled Security and Asset Protection

Speed, Safety and Security for Heavy Weight or Oversized AOG Parts

(PRWEB) November 03, 2013

gI_64782_aeroride.jpg Sterling, the leader in global aviation logistics, has launched a priority ground logistics service that provides a cost-effective and secure ground transportation solution to help get grounded aircraft back in the air quickly. This 24/7 service provides expedited, safe and affordable shipping options for valuable, delicate oversized or heavy weight aircraft parts, with pick up and delivery around-the-clock.

Traditionally, transporting valuable and delicate oversized parts meant using more expensive and less secure flatbed trucks, and shippers struggled to get an appropriate vehicle at a moment’s notice. Sterling’s Aviation transportation specialists can provide immediate solutions for aircraft parts such as flaps, slats, nose cowls, engines, engine inlets and other valuable oversized parts.

Sterling has a developed a network of over 8,000 trucks throughout North America that can pick up and deliver aircraft parts 24/7/365 for an AOG situation. End-to-end logistics provides direct drive of valuable assets with no consolidation, ensuring security and chain of custody. Valuable aircraft components are inside a covered truck from pick up through delivery to ensure asset protection. Real-time GPS Tracking provide status notifications, so these parts can be monitored every step of the way.

In addition, Sterling has also invested in and designed custom-built and aviation-focused team straight trucks for specific aviation requirements. These trucks have two curtain sides for easier and safer loading of extremely large, heavy parts. Each truck is equipped with AirRideControl™, a unique vibration monitoring system that ensures the AirRide functionality is working properly at all times. As a result, these aviation-focused trucks meet the Department of Defense and military specifications required for shipping critical components, which means parts are moved in the safest environment available for ground transportation today.

“Sterling is committed to supporting the aviation community and providing best-of-breed logistics solutions to minimize AOG situations. Our new AeroRide Ground Logistics service will provide the same high level of personalized service and attention to detail that our customers are accustomed to,” says Claus Engelbrechtsen, VP of Aviation Division.

About Sterling Global Aviation Logistics Since 1981, Sterling, a Quick Company, has been helping aviation clients with their worldwide AOG shipping, transporting valuable aircraft parts swiftly and efficiently. Sterling specializes in shipping AOG aircraft parts, rapid returns, heavy weight or oversized freight, and dangerous goods, while keeping down time to a minimum. With a focus on providing global AOG Logistics, Sterling is at the forefront of innovations, offering precision, individualized service and dependability.

QuickSTAT “Cold Chain Manager” Technology Solution Ensures Temperature Integrity for Clinical Trial and Drug Development Shipments

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 01, 2013

gI_63890_coldchainmanager_lowres.jpgQuickSTAT has developed a major enhancement to its industry leading online customer platform (QuickOnlineRx) and its proprietary IT system that helps to ensure product integrity and patient safety. The tools track, monitor and calculate transit duration against a package validation time.

Cold Chain Manager will help to ensure the integrity of Cold Chain shipments throughout transit. It provides visibility to QuickSTAT’s Control Tower team, and enables them to continually monitor and intervene if shipment integrity may be at risk. The timer calculates how much time has elapsed from packing, and continually provides the actual time the package is valid from pack out time. A built in formula calculates the time left for expiration from pack out, based on the packaging validation specifications.

The system provides milestones and built in alarms, to ensure that the specific Cold Chain protocols for that shipment is adhered to, such as client communication and coolant replenishment. Use of Cold Chain Manager provides critical information to the QuickSTAT Operations team, so they can be proactive, consult with their clients and make contingency plans or intervene, to minimize risks and avoid any threats to their product.

With QuickOnlineRx, shippers can view the milestones of the transit in real time, to include status of the shipment, and an auditable history of any steps taken to ensure temperature is maintained--such as adding dry ice, wet ice or gel packs.
