In our support for the International Breast Milk Project (IBMP), Quick International Courier in conjunction with Prolacta Bioscience delivered 11,000 ounces (2,750 bottles) of donor breast milk to South Africa this past week. The shipment was sent from Monrovia, California, to be split between Durban and Cape Town. The milk will be used to feed premature, sick and orphaned infants.
Once there, the Cape Town-based non-profit, Milk Matters, distributed the donor breast milk to over 23 major hospitals in the province. Breast milk delivery is crucial in these areas because one-third of the people in South African towns are HIV positive which makes recruiting healthy local milk donors very difficult. In the developing world, breast-feeding and breast milk feeding are key interventions to promote child health and survival.
Quick International Courier, donated the logistics planning and cold chain shipping services to provide safe and secure delivery of the milk from California to South Africa. Quick designed an end-to-end solution to ensure that the milk stayed in-temperature throughout transit to maintain its nutritional value.
