Newly discovered Omicron strain
29 Nov, 2021

According to the World Health Organization, the newly discovered Omicron strain poses a "very high" global risk and is likely to spread. The countries of concern are South Africa, where the variant was first detected, along with Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia and Zimbabwe. Major travel destinations, including the European Union, Japan, Australia, the United States and Canada have moved to block flights from African countries following the discovery of the Omicron variant. Expect reduced flight frequencies and reduced routing options to/from countries in sub-Saharan Africa for the foreseeable future.
